This region of Wales is steeped in history and was known as the Kingdom of Gwynedd for almost a millennium. The mountainous stronghold of Snowdonia was the centre of that realm and remains today the centre of the Welsh Language and cultural identity. Besides the outstanding raw natural beauty, it is also the home of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and canal and the many Edwardian castles and town walls of the region. Conwy Castle, built during medieval times by Edward I during his conquest of Wales remains a popular tourist attraction in the region. Caernarfon Castle is another impressive castle that can be visited during your tour.

Snowdonia is the most popular national park in Wales and offers visitors breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visitors tend to concentrate their time by Mount Snowdon. Groups can enjoy the Snowdon Mountain Railway which will take them to the summit and see the spectacular views from the top.

Example itinerary

Day 1	Morning: Departure from school and travel to North Wales. Afternoon: Arrival in Caernarfon to see this charming royal town and historic castle before travelling to Conwy to see the castle and surrounding area. Evening: Travel to accommodation for overnight stay.
Day2	Morning: After breakfast, travel to Snowdonia National Park. Enjoy the stunning scenery of this beautiful area or take a trip up Mount Snowdon. Afternoon: After lunch, enjoy some free-time before meeting up again and travelling back to school. Evening: Arrival back at school in the evening. End of tour.

Caernarfon Castle

This medieval fortress in Caernarfon, Wales was built in 1283 by King Edward I to protect his newly conquered territory of Wales.Today, it is part of the World Heritage Site “Castles and Town Walls of King Edwards in Gwynedd”. The castle dominates the town’s skyline and is a truly unique Welsh landmark.

Snowdonia National Park

This national park was the country’s third after the Peak District and Lake District National Parks were established. The parks covers some 827 square miles and has a long stretch of coastline which is a Special Area of Conservation. Snowdonia National Park offers visitos breath-taking views of some of the UK’s top nature sites.

Portmeirion Village

This popular tourist villagein Gwynedd, Wales was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 to be styled as an Italian Village. The village has a unique Welsh charm to it and is popular with tourists all year long.

Conwy Castle

This castle was built during the reign of Edward I following his conquest of Wales.Widely considered to be one of the best examples of late 13th century military architecture in Europe, today visitors enjoy seeing this well-preserved castle as it was over 800 years ago.

Cardigan Bay

Situated on the west coast of Wales is this large inlet called Cardigan Bay. It has numerous beaches and a unique marine life and its often possible to observe dolphins, porpoises and Atlantic Grey Seals. It has the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in the UK.

Mount Snowdon

The highest mountain in Wales with an altitutde of 1,085 metres this mountain in Snowdonia National Park has been described as the busiest mountain in Britain. It has an abundance of rare flora and fauna. The mountain offers some of the best views in Britain and the summit can be reached by a number of means including Snowdon Mountain Railway.
