Warwick Castle – Tours for Groups

This medieval castle dates back to the time of William the Conqueror when in 1068 he built a fortification here on a bend of the River Avon. Throughout its history it has undergone numerous reconstruction and been refortified many times. The castle has been open to the public since the end of the 17th century and houses one of the finest collections of armoury in Great Britain. It has consistently been in the Top 10 of historic houses and monuments in Great Britain and has been voted Britain’s best castle.
Throughout the year, Warwick Castle hosts many events and shows which include “Flight of the Eagles” ( a bird of prey show), archery displays, Jousting, “The Trebuchet Show” ( the largest catapult in the world), and the “The Sword in the Stone Show”. School groups of all ages and disciplines are sure to find this visit educational and worthwhile.

Morning: Departure from school and travel to Warwickshire for entrance into Warwick Castle.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon exploring the castle and castle grounds.

Evening: Evening departure from Warwick Castle and travel back to school. End of Tour.

Things to see & do in Warwick Castle

Towers and Ramparts
Warwick CastleTowers were the main defense of a castle and gave archers a clear target of the enemy below. Warwick Castle has a number of excellent towers which can be visited. Caesar’s Tower is the tallest tower and goes up to 44.8 meters. Guy’s tower is twelve sided and at 39 meters tall is also impressive.

Great Hall and State Rooms
Warwick CastleThe Great Hall is the largest and grandest room in the castle. The hall was built first in the 14th century but later rebuilt after fire in 1871. The State Rooms have been embellished through the centuries and contain fina examples of paintings and sculptures. It’s most treasured painting is of Jeanne d’Aragon who at the time was considered the most beautiful woman in Europe.

The Princess Tower
Warwick CastleYou ticket to Wariwick Castle includes free entry into The Princess Tower. Girls can dream of being a Princess whilst being in this tower and possibly even meet their Prince Charming.

Gardens
Warwick CastleThe gardens date back to 1576 when Queen Elizabeth I visited the castle. The Earl of Warwick transformed the gardens even more by employing Britain’s greatest landscape gardener, Lancelot Brown.

The Mill & Engine House
Warwick CastleThis remarkably restored Victorian Mill is located within the castle along the River Avon. Although mills have been on the terrain of the castle long before this one, it shows how the 5th Earl of Warwick was able to generate electricity for the Castle.

Peacock Garden
Warwick CastleWarwick Castle, besides being known as a stunning medieval castle, is also known for its peacocks. See the beautiful colours of the peacocks with manicured hedges, fountains, and even a pond in the backgorund.
